So I was traveling home from Texas this week. I get through security at IAH (Houston), and I immediately beeline for the Starbucks stand (which is fortunately the first thing across from security). I get my coffee, go to the little milk\/sugar\/etc. stand, and there’s a late-middle-aged hispanic women slowly emptying the ice from her thermos into her hand, over the trashcan, and throwing the ice away. Finally a bottle of something-injectable falls out, which she takes, dumps the rest of the thermos out, and goes back to her bag, closing the thermos and putting her bottle of something-injectable away. A flight attendant standing next to me also witnessed this. After a moment, I said to her, quietly, “well, that was weird.” She goes “oh, it’s okay, it’s medicine.”<\/p>\n
Well, if a flight attendant didn’t think this worthy of making a big deal out of, I certainly wasn’t going to make a big deal out of it… but you have to wonder, if it was such legitimate medicine, why did she have to sneak it past security in a thermos of ice? And how did she get a thermos of *anything* past security when no liquids of any sort are permitted? She clearly didn’t show it to security, or it would have already been out of the ice and she wouldn’t have had to fish it out a mere 25 feet away from the security checkpoint.
