One of them said Friends With Benefits and was about how HR was a friend that gave you good benefits (health insurance, 401k, etc.). Another says What A Tool and has a guy drilling into a can of food. I noticed the Friends With Benefits poster in the kitchen on Monday and chuckled at the play-on words, read it to see what it was about, and went back to my desk. Obviously this is an effective poster – I read it! On Tuesday that poster was gone – but the other similar posters were still up. The Friends poster was gone from every floor, and in fact I would later find out it was removed from the Phoenix office as well. So I mentioned this to some other people and all we could come up with was that someone was offended and complained.

Take a moment to let that sink in. Just bask in the absurdity of this. Be amazed at how fucking over-sensitive and bitchy people can be.

Being offended by such a poster is such completely fucked up, stupid, retarded, ass-backwards feminazi bullshit that I was actually (albeit briefly) shocked by it – and not much shocks me. The person who complains about such a poster should be shot. No, I take that back. They should be really offended. They should find someone from a country where women (I supposed a guy could have complained, but it seems even less likely to be offensive to males then it does to females), are thought of as property and let them spend a day together. Not because such behavior is in anyway acceptable – it’s certainly not – but to show what should be offensive. To show what inequality really is. To give some perspective on what harassment laws are there to protect people from. After that, they can be shot. A human resources department poster that is gender-inspecific is NOT inequality. And the play-on words is far from inappropriate.

Harassment laws are there to protect you from being treated unfairly in the workplace based on a “protected characteristic.” Not to prevent anyone from making fun of you or making jokes you don’t think are appropriate. And I’m fucking sick and tired of people abusing these laws for their own fucking insecurity.

Once again, people in this country are so fucking stupid, stuck in their own world, prissy little fuckasses they don’t know how good they have it.

I’m so sick of people claiming sexual, gender, racial, religious, or whatever harassment at the first mention of said aspect. I don’t go claiming harassment every time someone makes a Jew joke, or a long-hair joke, or a computer geek joke. Yeah, sometimes people hide behind “it was just a joke” when it’s not, but ya know what? That’s a small percentage. And when it happens, I say sue and complain until there’s nothing left. But for the other 95% of the time, fucking shut up!

OK, now let me acknowledge there is a possibility, however small, that someone made a comment inspired by the poster to someone who got offended and as a result the poster was taken down. However, let me also note that I heard no one talking about the poster until _after_ it was down. Additionally, the people who make edgy jokes at work always make them and always make them in the same circle of people, furthering the unlikeliness of this scenario. But, in the very, very, very unlikely case that’s what happened, that better have been an unacceptable comment, not just some crude joke. I mean, it better have been a boss conditioning a promotion on “friends with benefits” type stuff. And if so, I understand – completely. But as I said, I doubt it.

Finally, of the many people I spoke to about the disappearance of the poster, one person gave a different explanation. He said he had heard someone complaining that in the background, there was a dog drinking out of a toilet and they didn’t like such a poster in the kitchen. I know this is probably not the reason it was taken down, but if it was, this is even lamer. I can’t even wrap my mind around this it’s so preposterous! My mind can’t possibly bend enough to comprehend such a complaint, especially considering (recall I actually stood and read the poster) that I didn’t notice said dog.

People. Are. Fucking. Lame.

So last week at work a few new posters from HR went up, each with some sort of catch phrase or play-on words, to advertise some of our HR benefits.
