I’m very proud of our new president and this new step for our country. However, most of what I could say has been said before.

There is one thing I’d like to point out. As you may know, there is a new Whitehouse.gov website up. One of the sections is The Agenda which is split into many sub-sections including Civil Rights, Iraq, Health Care, etc. It’s worth a read through this. In particular, I’d like to point out a few particularly inspiring parts.

Under Civil Rights the site lists, “Support Full Civil Unions and Federal Rights for LGBT Couples” and “Oppose a Constitutional Ban on Same-Sex Marriage

Under Women the site lists, “Supports a Woman’s Right to Choose“

Under Homeland Security the site lists, “Give Real Authority to the Privacy and Civil Liberties Board“

Obviously it remains to be seen how much of this he can actually effect. However, he’s the first president, at least in my lifetime, and probably ever, who has strongly and clearly stated support for things like women’s right to choose and gay rights in writing!

People gave Obama a lot of shit for his statements becoming much less strong in the final few months leading up the election. However, that was absolutely the right choice. The way politics in our country works is such that once you have the majority, the best thing you can do is not piss any of them off. And if there were any doubts on his platform, I think they are now cleared up – in writing!

I supported Obama largely because of the social issues and his dedication to the rights of Americans. I’ll gladly pay more taxes to preserve the right for my government not to anally rape my rights at every turn. At least if I decide they’re charging me too much I’ll still have the right to complain!

So for all the nay-sayers out there, we put up with Bush for 8 long years. He fucked this country, its people, and their rights longer and harder than most people thought possible. How about you give Obama a chance?

There has been a lot of talk about Obama, the inauguration, and getting rid of Bush.
